ANTIQUE Edwardian Ruby-Eyed Skull Pendant in Yellow Gold featuring an articulated jaw and vivid, natural ruby eyes. Hallmarked in Birmingham, England in 1910, the skull bears the G & C.H. maker‘s mark, attributed to Birmingham manufacturers G & C Hodgetts, along with the 9/.375 gold standard, Birmingham anchor and 1910 date letter. An unusual example of Edwardian jewelry with a distinctly macabre character, the skull‘s hinged jaw opens and closes for movement and personality. Its skull motif draws on the centuries-old tradition of memento mori jewelry, symbolic reminders of mortality and the fleeting nature of life.
Purchased in London and more than a century old, the pendant has been fitted with a modern, oversized 14K yellow gold bail, allowing it to be worn on a variety of chains and charm holders while preserving the original antique skull.
The pendant measures approximately 27 mm long including the bail. Chain sold separately.
Complimentary shipping.
